I stayed in the Aloft San Juan by Marriott last fall on a trip with my son. We had split our trip up with two nights in San Juan and then two nights in the Rio Grande area near Luquillo. We got in very late the first night which we had booked into the Sheraton by Marriott in the same area. The next day we moved to the Aloft.
An Aloft hotel boasts a sleek and stylish design that caters to the tastes of modern travelers. Expect bold colors, funky furnishings, and an overall trendy ambiance that encourages social interaction and relaxation.
This is a fairly new hotel in what is a pretty new area called the T-Mobile District. If you are attending a concert or convention in this district, then the Aloft is the perfect place to stay. There are several restaurants below in the district and a few things to keep you busy
However, if you have not rented a car, it is way too far away from any beach or tourist area like Old San Juan. If you want to stick with something you can use points on I would recommend the Sheraton Old San Juan. You can also book this with Mariott Bonvoy points, but it tends to run more per night.
The Aloft was 22,000 Marriott Bonvoy points the night we were there and we were just looking for something cheap. You can also use a free night certificate that comes annually with the Chase Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus business card which is what I did.
Pros:
- The T-Mobile District is pretty cool
- The hotel is only a couple of years old
- Easy to drive into San Juan
- Great restaurants in the district
Cons:
- Can be loud late into the night as music is often playing down in the district
- If nothing is happening in the district, then it might seem like a boring area
- When an event is happening, the parking area can fill up and you might have quite a walk.
We had a two-queen room. Everything was clean and fresh. We were on the backside overlooking the main District area so could look and listen to the party going on below. If you want something more quiet, ask for a front-facing room.
Would I stay there again? Sure, especially if going to an event in the T-Mobile District.
